Recently as of July 2023 some people have been experiencing and are trapped with the following error “Word is better with a Microsoft account”.

The error looks like that:

If you click on “Fermer” or “Close” at the bottom left, it shuts down office, and there are no ways to log out from the problematic account.

To resolve, you have to press on “Esc” on that message, and it will silently close, and still allow you to use Word in read-only mode, which is how it’s supposed to work without a license.

Then you can go ahead under the Account tab, and logout from the problematic account, and log back with the one that has the right license.
